ABOUT US

Steven C. Sosa is the principal at the Law Office of Steven C. Sosa, APC. He has practiced exclusively in the field of Trust, Estates and Probate for over 25 years. He has been certified by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law. While he assists clients in a variety of matters large and small, both disputed and non-disputed, he focuses primarily on litigated matters. He has represented clients at trial in a variety of matters, including will and trust contests, breach of fiduciary claims, elder abuse matters and contested conservatorships.

Mr. Sosa started his career as a litigation associate at a large, 100+ attorney firm. Wanting a more-client focused practice, he joined the Legal Department at AIDS Project Los Angeles, where he was introduced to probate matters by assisting low-income, HIV-positive clients with basic estate planning services. He later started his own practice, where he brings the same level of dedication and service to his clients.

Mr. Sosa is active in the legal community, and is the past Chair of the Executive Committee of the Trusts and Estates Section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. He is a member of the Trusts and Estates section of the California Lawyer’s Association. He was formerly a member of the Los Angeles County Superior Court’s Probate Volunteer Panel, where he also served as a guardian ad litem. 

Mr. Sosa received a B.A. degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles. He attended the UCLA School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1990. He is a native of Los Angeles, where he resides with his wife and three children. He loves the outdoors and nature, and is an avid rock climber and mountain biker.

Successes

Will Contest. Successfully represented a trustee at trial contesting a newly discovered will that sought to revoke a prior trust and gift the estate to alternate beneficiaries.

Breach of Fiduciary Duty/Removal of Trustee. Successfully represented beneficiary at trial to remove the trustee and challenged the trustee’s accounting. Obtained a judgment surcharging trustee for c. $1.3 m. in damages. Judgment was affirmed on appeal.

Community Property Claim. Obtained a settlement for surviving spouse of one-third of husband’s separate property after his trust left her only $10,000.

Contested Conservatorship. Successfully represented daughters in long cause trial in the appointment of a conservator for their abducted father and reversal of changes to father’s trust.

Trust Contest. Successfully represented beneficiary defending amendment to mother’s trust and challenging amendment procured by sibling that gifted residence to him.
